DMC: Devil May Cry Detailed Review
When we heard that the Devil May Cry franchise was rebooting, we were pretty skeptical about what it would be like. Capcom has made the first four games in the franchise, and it would be a short statement to call it a success, although it has faced some criticism. If you are wondering why fans are not happy that the series is being rebooted, we have some insights for you. David Jaff, who created a small game called The God of War, took inspiration from Devil May Cry. So, when Ninja Theory was given the task of rebooting, skepticism skyrocketed.
Ninja Theory has a history of making good games. Their portfolio includes Enslaved, which was a great action adventure game, and Heavenly Sword, one of the launch games on the PS3. Both games were good and I enjoyed them.
Under Capcom’s direct supervision, Ninja Theory worked hard not only to give Dante a new look but also to create a new story, a new character and a much more crazy DmC universe. Have they succeeded in reviving the franchise, or is this game worthy of rotting limbo? Read on to find out!
The story of the game is quite straightforward. You Dante, Don in the role of a Nephilim. He is a descendant of the demon, Sparda, and the angel Eva. Dante remembers nothing before the age of seven. He is a barbarian and has no regard for the world and does whatever he pleases. The start of the game makes it very clear. He is reunited with his twin brother, Virgil, who reveals to Dante the truth that his mother was murdered and his father was taken prisoner by the demon Mundas. And now is the time for revenge!
The story of the game is quite simple and fans of the franchise will see the turning point a mile away. Nevertheless, there are still some interesting moments in the plot and the way the story is gradually revealed to the players is wonderful. A lot of time is spent building each character and that’s a good thing. Towards the end of the game you can connect each of them and their objectives. There is room for a sequel !!
The name of the game in Hack and Slash DMC. The gameplay is basically divided into two parts – Traversing and Combat. Let’s start with the war.
Dante has his sword, rebellion and his pair of pistols, ebony and ivory. Holding the right trigger gives you Satan-mode turns rebellion into a heavy weapon that is slow but does a lot of damage. Holding the left trigger gives Dante Angel the ability to turn rebellion into a fast-moving weapon that does good but less damage to hit multiple enemies. Each mode, Satan and Angel have one more weapon and Dante acquires two more guns during the game, making his powers great.
Every weapon and every tactic in the game has USP and this is where the game gets fun. There are certain enemies that require specific attacks to neutralize and this adds a good sense of diversity to the battle gameplay.
With such a large arsenal, Dante is ready to take the style force into style. You can chain numerous combos together across weapon types and that’s where the game excels. Achieving the highest score on the leaderboard is quite challenging for veterans as well as interesting and easy enough for newcomers to choose the controller and feel like professionals.
It is possible for you to use every weapon at your disposal in battle and not only to stop some insane moves while doing it but also to look like a complete villain while doing it. Combos are easy to perform for user-friendly and customizable controls.
Angel mode allows Dante to pull himself towards the enemy whereas Devil mode allows Dante to pull enemies and objects towards him. This is especially effective if you have to get close to the enemy or get out of a tough place.
If you like hacking and slashing video games then this is definitely for you.
In addition to kicking monster donkeys, Dante also crosses the environment. To get started, the game takes place in a limbo. Think of it as a more Gothic and displaced version of the world shown in Constantine. You have the standard running and jumping, but Dante can use Angel mode to glide a bit in mid-air, which helps him cover large gaps. You can also use angel mode and drag yourself to drag the tail and jump into it or even into daemon mode. It feels very enjoyable and fun to use these steps in a consistent situation.
The environments themselves are designed in such a way that a simple task of jumping in a few places and pulling yourself to one side not only looks great but also gives you a satisfying feeling of accomplishment.
About 95 percent of the game takes place in Limbo where Dante faces the monster world. It’s a very Gothic ruined fantasy of the real world and it’s great. Be it a secluded theme park or a subway station; Even inside a palace or factory, the way the environment is arranged is gorgeous and ideal for crossing some breathtaking paths.
There is no real puzzle in the game which is towards the end and this is a good thing because most of the attention is focused on action and traversing.
The graphics of the game are very good and equal to any AAA title there. The use of dark but dark colors to represent limbo really makes the world come alive. A unique color palette and some unique traversing experience refreshes every environment you go through. Your environment has monster tremors and it looks like an alternative reality, the way monsters see our world. A lot of thought and effort has been put into the game.
Even a naughty young man who looks like a new Dante doesn’t look like an adult, and you see him grow up. The game also has a cameo with “white haired” teeth to annoy fans of the franchise and it’s a nice touch. The game animations are great. From Dante’s rice to various enemies and even boss animations, the game looks great.
The ability to run a combination of different permutations and moves without the slightest hiccup in animation is great.
When ninja theory used the legendary Andy Sarkis (commonly known as the slave) for the heavenly sword and slavery, we knew that they knew the importance of acting as an authentic voice in a game. The same level of quality DmC can be found. The voice acting of all the characters is great and the dialogues can be arrogant at times, but the editing is great which makes the characters not only believable but also relatable.
The metal background score at DmC appreciates the action and at the same time the environment gives you the feeling of being a tough guy in a world that wants to destroy you. You may want to bump up the volume while playing it.
Swiss and swipes of rebellion, including ebony and ivory legs, are worth every mash of the button. The sound design is not only true for the franchise’s tradition, but it is also very nice.
If you’re still caught up in all the DMC reboot brohaha, we suggest you play the game before giving us your feedback. This should be set as a benchmark for perfect reboots and other action game reboots. The story is simple but entertaining thanks to the great editing of the characters. The battle is great and friendly for beginners as well as challenging for veterans. At the end of the game, you have a satisfying feeling of achievement. I haven’t had so much fun playing a game since Batman Arkham City! The game will take about 12 hours in the first playthrough and is unlocked as an incentive to go through the journey once more. Not to mention the various difficulty levels. A must buy for all the action adventure fans out there. A free Bloody Palace DLC, which provides unlimited more hours to honor one’s skills, will soon be available in all versions of the game.
