Get an edge with cortana

April 5, 2022 0 Comments

Microsoft Edge is the new default browser for Windows 10. It integrates with your personal assistant Cortana Powered by Bing Edge browser right into the address bar, and is Microsoft’s way of personalizing the browsing experience, more relevant to you – beyond a browsing experience.

The original attraction has moved to the address bar, there’s a lot going on, behind Edge’s address box, a relevant algorithm is constantly running and trying to match what you’re typing and then forwarding it to Cortana to make your search results more relevant to you. For example, if you type weather in the address bar, search results show weather information for your current location. Similarly, I’ve listed a few keywords below to get Cortana’s experience in the Edge browser’s address bar.

Interesting keywords.

1) MSFT stock
2) Weather
3) Temperature
4) What is the age of Tom Cruise?
5) 2 + 2
6) Time in India
7) Definition of learning

Pic1- Below is a picture of Cortana in the address bar.

First enable Cortana in your Windows 10 and then enable it in Edge browser –

Step 1- Cortana will usually be sitting in your taskbar waiting for you to click on it. When you first do this, he will ask you your name so that he can personalize himself to you. You can also right-click on the taskbar and decide whether to remove Cortana from the taskbar, or reduce it to a small circle. When you click on the search box, it pops up. And will ask for a live account certificate to get started. (At the moment, Cortana on Edge is available in select regions around the world.)

Clicking on the Pic- 2- Cortana search text box indicates that it is not available in your region

So until it’s available in our region, if you want to use it: Let’s start by changing the following settings under Control Panel.

– Region -> Location- > Set United States

– Language> English United States)

-Speech Recognition> English US

-Pick 3- Right click on the Windows icon and select Control Panel

Step 3- Open www.spqrsf.com in Edge Browser, a restaurant website, and if you don’t see any Cortana icon here, in the address bar, it’s time to change the settings in Edge Web Browser.

Step 4- To enable Cortana through browser settings, select the three dots in the right corner of your Edge browser and select the ‘Settings’ option and then select

‘View Advanced Settings’ – Switch to both options – “Help Cortana to Microsoft Edge” and “Show search suggestions as I type”.

Step 5- Now go back to the same restaurant’s website – http: //www.sqpqrsf.com and you’ll be able to see the Cortana icon in the address bar, click the icon to see directions, reviews, menus, and even select the call option. A Skype call to book a table.

I chose to display this feature on a restaurant site because searching for restaurants and booking tables is one of the most common tasks on the web. Similarly, in the future we can expect more sites that are commonly used on the web and will be popular with Cortana. Cortana is a server-driven feature; Microsoft Edge can add new sites as well as new classes of sites without updating the browser.
Here is a list of all the restaurant sites where the Cortana address bar will light up when you visit:

Want to check out the “Ask Cortana Feature”?

Ask Cortana anything on any page, anywhere on the web. You can pick some text and let Cortana know more about it. Highlight something on a page using touch or mouse, right click on it and select “Ask Cortana” option. A fly out menu will appear on the right side with the answer you are looking for!
If there is a Wikipedia page about the text you are searching for, Cortana will instantly pull it up, along with every other piece of information it can find about the text and the option to search the text via Bing. If it is not on Wikipedia, Cortana will simply do a Bing search so you can see what you want without having to leave your current page. Cortana is built into the browser so you can quickly search for content and save the time you spend searching for it.
