While real wireless IEMs are all the rage right now, wireless neckband style IEMs are still popular with brands that constantly offer new offers for those who like this form factor. Domestic audio company boAt has recently expanded its lineup of popular ‘Rockerz’ wireless earphones and launched the BoAt Rockerz 330 in India at a competitive price of Rs 1,299. The earphones have some attractive features like water resistance, long battery life and the sleeves of the magnetic earbud are on top but it faces stiff competition from brands like Redmi, Realmy and Noise. Let’s see how these entry-level wireless earphones work during our testing process.

Construction and comfort

BoAt Rockerz 330 Review

The BoAt Rockerz 330 is definitely a visitor, especially when it comes to what we usually expect in this price segment. It has a simple but elegant design with a well-made rubber neckband and metal module on each side. One on the right has a multi-function button, volume buttons and a USB-C charging port, the other just has the Boat logo and maintains weight balance. Buttons have good techniques and responses. There is also a mini-LED light that indicates when the device is being used as well as low battery.

Metal modules have a smooth, glossy finish and the rubber neckband feels soft to the touch and comfortable around the neck. The earbuds come with a metal housing and are magnetically attached to each other while inactive on the chest. You also have silicone wings or fins that enhance the fit, making it snug and comfortable. The company also offers an assortment of ear tips so that users can choose the best work for them. It combines with silicone wings to create an exceptional fit that greatly enhances passive isolation, significantly drowning out some environmental noise.

The earphones are available in a variety of color options, including Active Black, Ocean Blue, Navy Blue, Teal Green, Blazing Yellow and Raging Red. So, it will definitely appeal to the youth as it allows them to choose the most suitable color with aesthetic or style. Overall, the BoAt Rockerz 330 comes with a robust yet lightweight build and tough fit, which will satisfy most users.

Features

While the BoAt Rockerz 330 doesn’t have the attractive features of Active Noise Cancellation that are not expected at this price, it does have a number of features that make it a lucrative option. For connectivity, the earphones are equipped with Bluetooth v5.0 and have a wireless range of about 33 feet (uninterrupted). The earphones were able to keep the connection from one end to the other in a small 1BHK apartment, which is quite decent. They come with SBC and AAC codec support. It is good to see AAC support at this price point.

The earphones come with voice assistant support, which can be highlighted using the multi-function buttons. The Rockerz 330’s onboard controls can be used not only to adjust volume, play / pause music and turn on / off, but also to call your source device’s voice assistant to call, answer / reject / end call, and track search. Can The controls worked great throughout our test period.

The earphones come with IPX5 water resistance which means they can stop sweating and light splash, so they can be used in light rain or at the gym. Surprisingly, these earphones come with dual pairing, commonly known as multi-point connection, where the earphones can be connected to two devices simultaneously. Cheap paired wireless earphones like the BoAt Rockerz 330 look great with this feature because many expensive audio products lack multi-point connectivity.

Performance

The Sporting 10mm dynamic driver, the BoAt Rockerz 330 has a heavy base-centric sound profile. This sound profile should be familiar to anyone who has used a boAt product in the past because the company originally made audio devices with this sound profile because it caters to the public. Regardless of the type of music you are listening to, the base response is very sharp and front-and-center. Sometimes, the alloy reaction comes across as very dark, where the alloy reaction is highly exaggerated and covered in the middle and upper.

For example, in the track Pull me down By Dream TheaterAt the 1:20 mark, most drums sound extremely cloudy and cloud the detail on other instruments. This makes the track flat and one-dimensional sound. Such as on vocal-centric tracks Hello By AdeleEarphones do a good job when the focus is mostly on the vocals, but when the instruments enter the track, the vocals become a bit cloudy.

Earphones also create exaggerated heights where high-pitch instruments and vocals are described in detail and these parts are usually moved in the background of the track while the lower ones must be at the front. In all honesty, these earphones will only appeal to those who are very fond of Thampy Base Response and initially listen to genres like pop, EDM, hip-hop and Bollywood party / dance numbers. Earphones are also very loud and we usually hear them at the 40-50 percent volume mark because the sound is much more distorted after the 60 percent mark.

Moving on to the microphone, the boAt Rockerz 330 has a built-in microphone that works decently for the most part. When used to make calls inside the house, it works quite well, however, when you are outside, the microphone sometimes struggles to clearly relay the caller’s voice. Also, a large portion of the surrounding sound is captured by the microphone and returned to the listener at the other end. However, the mic of these earphones is fully serviceable when you are usually indoors when making a call.

Battery life

Battery life is probably the most powerful suite of BoAt Rockerz 330 wireless earphones. The device promises a battery life of up to 30 hours. In our experiments, the earphones last for about a week with about 3-4 hours of use per day, so the claim seems to be correct. This is definitely a strong performer in terms of battery life in this price segment, and most users should be able to charge it once and then forget about doing the same thing for a week or more, which is quite convenient.

When you need to charge your earphones when they run out of juice, the earphones support fast charging where a 10 minute charge gives you 10 hours of play time. The earphones can be fully charged in about 40 minutes.

Judgment

The BoAt Rockerz is definitely a good alternative to entry-level wireless earphones. At an aggressive price of Rs 1,299, they get a plethora of attractive features like 30 hours battery life, USB-C charging, voice assistant support, multi-point connectivity and more. Plus, the earphones have a strong build and a great fit for most ears. However, the sound quality must be the most delicious for base-lovers or base-enthusiasts. The base response is extremely aggressive and it clouds the fine details of the voice and instrument regardless of the genre or the track you are listening to. So, if you’re a fan of base-focused sound, the BoAt Rockerz 330 is one of the most valuable wireless earphones below 1.5K.
