Now, Realme has launched its latest neckband style wireless earphones – Realme Buds Wireless 2 which comes with various features for less than Rs 2,299. Not only will you get ANC, you will also get LDAC codecs and excellent app support. Let’s find out how this wireless earphone works and whether it’s worth your money.

Realme Buds Wireless 2: Build and Comfort

Realme Buds Wireless 2 Review

Realme Buds Wireless 2 is available in two colors – Bass Gray and Bass Yellow. We got the latter for review and it looks almost identical to the Realme Buds Wireless Pro that we reviewed earlier. Build quality is quite decent for the price. The neckband is smooth to the touch and velvety but feels quite strong. It is also very flexible.

The side modules feel a bit cheaper and plastic. The left weight module has nothing while the right has buttons and a USB-C charging port. There are four buttons in total – volume up, volume up, ANC toggle and a multifunction button. You can use these buttons to change volume, search for tracks, pause / play music, answer calls, call your device’s voice assistant, switch between ANC modes, and enable low latency gaming mode. The buttons are not very clickable and do not have a well-satisfying tactile response, but they do the job well enough.

The earbuds are simple and have a glossy and matte dual finish. They are slightly angled to help with fit. The buds can be magnetically attached to each other and the act of attaching them closes them and turns them on. Simply disconnect the buds from each other, turn on the device and instantly connect to a pair of devices. This is quite convenient but the buds are more likely to accidentally fall off in a bag or purse. The buds will turn on and the battery will drain unnecessarily.

The neckband weighs a mere 29 grams and it is very comfortable to wear for a long time. The buds fit snugly inside the ear and offer a comfortable fit. You will find a total of three different sized pair of ear tips – S, M, and L. The buds are IPX5 rated for protection against sweat and water. So, they can be used without thinking while in gym or exercise. Overall, we were impressed with the fit and comfort of Realme Buds Wireless 2

Realme Buds Wireless 2: Features

Realme Buds Wireless 2 is a pair of highly featured wireless earphones. Priced at Rs 2,299, this makes these earphones a great value for money choice for the users. Buds Wireless 2 comes with Active Noise Cancellation which can offer noise reduction up to 25dB.

In our experiments, we found the Active Noise Cancellation performance to be quite decent, it works decently enough to cancel out some low-frequency, constant noise such as an AC hum. It doesn’t do much to exclude other words like traffic and high speed fans. However, for the price, we can’t really complain. ANC Realme Buds is better than the Wireless Pro which has drastically changed the sound profile of the buds, which is not the case at the moment. The buds come with a clarity mode that works fairly well. It does work even if it sounds a bit unusual at times.

Realme Linked App

In addition to ANC and Transparency modes, Realme Buds is supported by the Wireless 2 Realme Link app that allows users to change some aspects of the earphones. You can customize the controls within the app to suit your needs. Users can customize both single tap, double tap, triple tap and multifunction buttons and noise cancellation buttons touch and hold function.

You can also toggle between noise cancellation modes – noise cancellation, normal and clarity. There is also an option to toggle between some preset EQ profiles of your choice such as Bass Boost +, Dynamic and Bright. The profiles have made a difference in the sound signature of the earphones, so you can choose any one of your choice. In addition to these functions, you can check the battery percentage of your earphones in the app, update the firmware, enter game mode and much more.

Speaking of game mode, Realme Buds Wireless 2 offers 88ms less latency in this mode. There was a slight difference in latency when this mode was enabled when it was inactive so it will be effective when you watch videos and play games on your phone with earbuds turned on. Note that game mode cannot be turned on when the device is using LDAC codec, you need to switch to SBC or AAC to enjoy the game mode.

You’ll also find Google Fast Pair, a quick switch feature for fast switching between two paired devices, IPX5 water resistance and some other features like fast charge. All in all, if you’re looking for a feature-rich wireless earphone under 3K, it won’t be much better than the Realme Buds Wireless 2.

Realme Buds Wireless 2: Performance

Realme Buds is powered by Wireless 2 R2 chip and comes with Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity. We were a bit disappointed that we didn’t get Bluetooth v5.2 with these since Realme has recently used it on other devices. The earphones have been tuned in partnership with the popular EDM duo, The Chainsmokers. The buds include a large 13.6mm bus boost driver with SBC, AAC and Sony’s LDAC high-race codec support.

Realme Buds Wireless 2 Review

Realme Buds Wireless 2 has a V-shaped sound signature with boosted bus and boosted high. Thanks to the big driver, you get a loud thumping bus that sounds dynamic and powerful. The lower bass range increases more than the upper bass, so it can mask the sounds in the upper bass and the middle ones by bleeding between them. The heights also increase drastically and can sometimes overwhelm the mixture. There is also considerable fluency and sharpness due to the increased height, especially when listening to genres like rock.

Introducing the LDAC codec significantly improves the sound. The soundstage is a bit wider and the details of the frequencies are better preserved. However, the sound quality is still quite moderate, optimal. If you are a casual listener it will not bother you so much but it is better to stay away if you enjoy balanced sound.

Now, moving on to microphone performance, Realme Buds Wireless 2 Vocplus AI for noise cancellation calls that intelligently eliminates the surround sound of calls. Thanks to this, we found the performance of the microphone in these buds to be much higher than average, especially for this price range. Even when we were in traffic with loud hooks around, the quality of the call was quite clear and primitive.

Realme Buds Wireless 2: Battery Life

Realme claims that Realme Buds Wireless 2 brings 18 hours of battery playtime when the ANC is off (at 50 percent volume) and the ANC is on. Battery life is very important and we have seen that wireless earphones are constantly evolving in this direction. To test the battery life we put Realme Buds Wireless 2 in motion and we are happy to say that the buds have been delivered. With the launch of ANC at 70 percent volume, the buds provide 17 hours and 5 minutes of play time, not far from the company’s estimate, although we tested at 70 percent volume.

If you turn on the LDAC codec and listen, you see big drops while playing. You get 10 hours of playback when ANC is on and 11 hours of playback when ANC is off. If you haven’t listened to LDAC, earbuds for listening to music, calls, watching videos and much more should easily last 4-5 days on a single charge.

When charging, earbuds can be fully charged in just 50 minutes from an empty battery. In addition, you get fast charging support where 10 minutes of charging gives the user 12 hours of listening time (ANC off).

Realme Buds Wireless 2: Judgment

If you are looking for a cheap pair of wireless earbuds with ANC, app support, good battery life and more, then Realme Buds Wireless 2 is a very attractive option. Within this price range it is one of the most feature rich wireless earphones. The earphones also offer a great fit that is comfortable for a long time. In addition, you will find quite decent ANC performance and great microphone quality. Sound quality is a bit of a hit and miss for us, but most casual users don’t mind. Overall, at Rs 2,299, these earphones offer a compelling number of features for the price, with decent sound quality and great microphone performance to add.
